Random Clicks Windows Explorer / My Computer Sorting Tip

Every once in a while I accidentally click on the screen randomly and get a nice surprise.  This is how I found out about dragging grips in Revit as well as windows scroll bars.  This tip is about Windows Explorer and how to filter what is being displayed.

When you look at the headers in the windows screen there can be two arrows associated to them.  If the column is being used for sorting then it will have an Up arrow allowing for it to be sorted ascending or descending, this one I have known for years.  The other one is used for filtering, even if it isn’t used for grouping.  Depending on what column is selected and what file or folders are in the window different options will come up.  This is huge for me, in the past I would group by file type and then scroll down to the appropriate types, now I just Filter by the file types needed.  Try clicking on other columns and see what options are available.

Random Clicks Windows Scroll Bars

A while back I had accidentally right clicked on a scroll bar, and I noticed a dialog box come up that I had never seen before.  It allows for ANY windows scroll bar to be moved to the top, bottom, current location etc..  This is a small little tip that I use a lot when I have scrolled to the bottom and want to get back to the top, especially in the Project Browser for Revit.

Autodesk 2014 Download

This year Autodesk has stated that the software will be available for DOWNLOAD ONLY.  However if you run into issues during the download you can request media be shipped.  If you have a slow Internet connection or simply like the box on the shelf the check out the knowledge base on how to request the media.  Once the software is available for download, April 1st, you should be able to request media.

Autodesk 2014 Uninstaller

According to the help file in 2014 Autodesk installations will also install and uninstaller.  This will help when uninstalling an entire suite, (glad this came about as this has been a royal pain in the @$$ for previous releases), as well as help with any conflicts on one program relating to another.  I now want to install the suite just so I can test this tool out.

New Exciting Release Slated for Late April

Dezi and I haven’t been blogging too much lately because we have been involved in this beta.  It has meant a lot of appointments with professionals, anticipation and excitement.

This release will come in a compact package but will continue to grow in the upcoming years.  Will probably become expensive in future years but we are hoping the product will be worth the costs.

This release does not use the ribbon interface however has an interactive touch interface which is user friendly and pleasant on the eyes and will make you want to keep playing with it.  The 3 dimensional representation seems lifelike.

Some of the features that will be available include super purge, hopefully the auto-sleep feature will work but has been known to be a bit glitchy.  It is said to have an artificial intelligence-like learning capability that is supposed to advance the more it is used.    Many other features will keep us up at night until we figure them out.    User customizable carrying cases can be added as well as  many accessories, but they must be purchased separately and can vary considerable in price.

The product is a direct result from nested family capabilities yet the final naming of the product is still yet to be decided and if you would like to weigh in feel free to add comments to this blog.  If you want to see a sneak peak of the box shot click the link below to see a preview.
